Sun Peaks

Discover Sun Peaks, Canada’s second-largest ski area, where an intimate village meets big-mountain adventure. With reliable snowfall, diverse terrain across three mountains, and minimal lift lines, it’s skiing and snowboarding at its most effortless. Beyond the slopes, enjoy a warm, welcoming community and endless winter activities for every age.

Sun Peaks – where every run feels like your own.

Overview

Sun Peaks offers over 4,270 acres of skiable terrain spread across three interconnected mountains. The resort receives an average of six metres of light, dry powder snow each season, ensuring consistent and high-quality conditions from early winter through spring. Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities will find something to suit them, from wide-open groomers and alpine bowls to gladed tree runs and a dedicated terrain park. The purpose-built, ski-in ski-out village sits at the base of all three mountains, making it easy to transition between exploring the slopes and enjoying shops, cafés, and après venues.

Sun Peaks is more than just a ski destination. Visitors can take part in a wide range of off-mountain activities, including snowshoe tours, ice fishing, dog sledding, and snowmobiling. The resort calendar is packed with events, from family-friendly weekly activities to signature experiences such as Pride Weekend in February and the Savour Culinary Festival in March. With minimal crowds, excellent access via Kamloops Airport (less than an hour from Vancouver by air), and a friendly local community, Sun Peaks delivers a seamless and memorable winter holiday experience.

At Sun Peaks, where you choose to ski really depends on the kind of day you are chasing. Cruisy groomers, quiet powder stashes, or something a little more playful through the trees. This is our story from January 2026.

Tod Mountain
Powder days are all about strategy, and Nick thinks he found the winning one for Tod Mountain❄️
His routine was simple: take the Sunburst Express and Crystal chair to the top, soak in those stunning views, and then traverse over to West bowl and stay there for hours.
Since the West Bowl Express opened for the 2024–25 season, it has completely changed the game. There’s less traffic, significantly more space, and that elusive away-from-the-crowds feeling.
On a powder day, it is a ton of fun and easily one of the best spots on the mountain to find fresh tracks.

Morrisey Mountain
It wasn’t until the end of Nick’s trip that he finally spent some proper time on Morrisey Mountain, and it immediately made him want to go back.
You’ve got everything from cruisy blue groomers and playful tree skiing to those steeper runs that keep things interesting. The best part? There were absolutely no lift lines; he was straight onto the chair every single time 🙌
Hot tip: grab a coffee, lunch/snack or specialty churro at Umbrella Café (at the bottom of Orient) and head up the Morrisey Express in the late afternoon to wrap up your day. As the sun starts to set, the entire village, Tod, and the Sundance Mountains are completely illuminated and sun-soaked.

Sundance
This is our favourite gentle side of Sun Peaks, and it’s where Nick found his ski legs. Long, easy cruisers like Rambler and Homesteader roll down to the village, perfect for beginners still getting comfortable, while intermediates have a stack of blue runs to play with in between. It’s not all mellow though. Peak-A-Boo is the mountain’s one black run for those wanting to push a little harder, and the terrain park runs the full length of the lift line, packed with rails and jumps for the freestyle crew. Sundance also opens earlier than the rest of the lines, so it’s was the spot for first tracks on a powder morning before the crowds spread out.

…and the best part is you can mix all three in a single lap without ever feeling rushed or fighting for space.

Village

If Sun Peaks were a dessert, it would be a candy apple… hear us out!

After Nick tested the runs and the village life in December and January, the best way he can describe the destination is like a candy apple.

At the core, you’ve got a healthy and crunchy green apple, that’s the massive mountains and those perfect, crisp runs where Nick barely saw a lift line.

Then, there’s a thick layer of delicious caramel, which represents the stunning village and the plethora of ski-in/ski-out accommodation options that make holidaying here so seamless.

But the sprinkles on top are what really make it shine. It’s the extras you always appreciate: snow activities, a fully equipped gym, a well-stocked grocery store, a liquor store with a great wine selection, and even a Japanese restaurant he found very hard to stay away from 🍣

Ski through village makes it shine.

We’ve explored our fair share of mountain bases, but the ‘ski-through’ village at Sun Peaks is genuinely next level – and it isn’t just about the convenience (although skiing right to the café for your morning flat white is a massive win ☕️)

The resort was built following a master plan to reflect the charm of traditional alpine villages in Europe. When you’re sliding through the village, you’re taking in gabled rooflines, colourful façades, and the arcades that give the place such a lively, postcard-perfect feel.

The village is so good, it allows you to transition from a morning on the peaks to a long lunch or a bit of retail therapy without ever losing your mountain momentum.

It’s the kind of resort you go to once… and then find yourself looking at dates to go back.

Ski-in/Ski-out Accommodation

It really does feel like a ski base dream.

Picture this – a crisp January morning in Sun Peaks Resort. You pull back the curtains, and sure enough, the forecast delivered. A fresh layer of powder has settled overnight, untouched and waiting.
This is where ski-in/ski-out at Sun Peaks comes into its own.
With so many accommodation options right in the village (including a few we always recommend), your morning couldn’t be easier. Down to the lobby, gear on, click in straight out the door – and you are sliding your way to a flat white before heading for the lift.
Meanwhile, your mate who hit snooze one too many times is already playing catch-up… on the chair still, cos it’s never far here.

By the time you are on the chair, legs dangling and views opening up – right as that mix of anticipation and adrenaline kicks in. You are lifting the bar, calling the line, and before you know it, you are pointing it downhill with a “YEEW” that says it all.
And that’s the beauty of it – no effort, no friction, no wasted time. You are straight into it, and it stays that way all day.

So, where do you stay to make this your everyday routine?

Après & Dining

Know your spots and party like a local.

Here is our secret to knowing Sun Peaks best – being friends with locals. Meet Sun Peaks local legend Ilkay (also known as the Après King), bringing the European après charm to Sun Peaks! He knows how to party in a traditional German Lederhosen and walked us through his favourite spots.

Vertical Café

Our morning go-to. It’s a warm, family-run business that’s always buzzing with locals. Their organic, locally sourced food is the best way to set yourself up for a massive day on the slopes.

Sunburst Lodge

You cannot miss the iconic cinnamon buns at Sunburst Lodge and apres later in the day. The recipe has been a closely guarded secret since 1980, and Lucy from our marketing team is still talking about them. Grab a hot chocolate and soak up the sun on the patio. Don’t forget to come back for sunset apres!

Bottoms Bar & Grill

This is a no-brainer for a casual après. It’s a proper mountain saloon where you’ll make new friends over a few drinks. It is loud, lively, and exactly what a ski bar should be.

Oya Japanese

For a more elevated evening, the atmosphere here is incredibly cosy. Their ramen and sharing sushi platters are exactly what you need after a day on the slopes.

Ohana Deli & Market

Does your perfect evening involve a roaring fire, a glass of wine, and a delicious homemade charcuterie board? We know exactly where to get it from 🍷🧀

Here is the secret to a homemade dinner during your ski holiday – Ohana Deli Market. It is one of those rare finds that makes a holiday special. From Italian gluten-free spaghetti carbonara for dinner to handmade meals, fresh produce, charcuterie and cheese, it elevates the entire experience.

We were particularly impressed by their ability to customise orders for groups, a lifesaver when you’re hosting a post-ski dinner.

This is Sun Peaks life we’ve experienced – one minute you are finishing your last run, the next you are in the village, boots still on, drink in hand, and the whole place slowly coming to life around you.

Other Activities

Think the best part of Sun Peaks is the skiing? There’s more to discover.

Beyond the powder, the off-mountain experiences add a whole new layer to your stay.

Whether you’re craving a high-speed snowmobile adventure or a three-course alpine fondue, there is a whole world of winter experiences to explore.

The best part? You don’t have to lift a finger to experience it. We don’t just secure your flights and accommodation. We select the best partners, try the activities and only then plan, book, and organise your entire itinerary so you can skip the stress and get straight to the experience. Here are some of our favourite in Sun Peaks

Dog Sledding
Sled through the majestic lodgepine trees. This guided tour perfect for young children and adults includes an introduction to dog sledding, meeting the team and feeding snacks on return. Laura Henderson experienced this last season and this is how it went:

A highly anticipated visit with the goodest boys and girls you’ll find on the mountain. Chris and Taryn, a husband-and-wife duo, run the tours alongside their team. They’ve been in the business since 2010, so they know exactly what they’re doing. Before heading out, we met the real workers at their basecamp kennels, where Chris gave us a rundown of the dog breeds and happily answered questions from our small group. Once the teams were attached to the sleds, the energy ramped up quickly — the dogs were beyond excited to get going. You’re snugged in with a blanket, tucked into the sled cocoon, and off you go.

Out on the trail, it’s surprisingly peaceful as the dogs settle into their rhythm. Stop for a moment, though, and the barking kicks back in — they’re ready to go again.

A genuinely fun experience, and one that pretty much anyone can enjoy. Perfect for non-skiers or as a rest day activity for families.

Learn to Ski or Snowboard
Let Sun Peaks Sports School sharpen your skills. Kids to adult programmes, group or private lessons, performance clinics first tracks private lesson or guided backcountry tours.

Ice Fishing
If you’re looking for a laid-back winter activity that still offers excitement, ice fishing is a great choice. Sitting on a frozen lake, surrounded by pristine wilderness, you’ll feel miles away from the hustle of daily life. Lucy Macready went on this experience with her family a couple of seasons ago:

I didn’t expect ice fishing to be a highlight, but it honestly was.

A short drive out and suddenly you’re standing on a frozen lake — snow everywhere, trees all around. It feels like a completely different world to Sun Peaks.

I’m not much of a fisher, but sitting inside the little tent with the family turned into some of the best chats of the trip. We were lucky enough to pull up two rainbow trout through the freshly drilled hole in the ice — one we even helped create.

Campbell, our local guide, made the whole experience. Full of knowledge, incredibly patient, and always making sure everyone was warm and comfortable.

Sitting there with a hot chocolate in hand, looking out at the scenery, chatting and laughing the whole time — it ended up being one of those unexpectedly great moments.

Snowmobiling Tours
For those who crave adventure, and untouched winter terrain, a guided tour is the ultimate way to experience Sun Peaks’ backcountry. Plus, new Cabin Fever Apres tour lets you experience the trails at night, with a picnic dinner!

Snowshoe Tours
Explore serene alpine trails, spot wildlife, and enjoy breathtaking mountain views, perfect for all ages and ability levels. New routes and guided experiences at Sun Peaks offer acess to the quiet beauty of the backcountry.

Experience the magic of a winter’s night on a Moonlight Snowshoe Tour, including a delicious campfire treat of S’mores. Beginning with an easy 3km snowshoe tour and guided trek through beautiful forest trails, guests will then enjoy a roaring fire, hot apple cider and special S’mores at our cozy winter camp.

The return journey offers beautiful views overlooking the picturesque village and its sparkling lights! An experience for everyone to enjoy, families with children 8 years and older and adults young at heart will enjoy this evening under the stars
