Hokkaido

The second largest and most northern of the four main islands, Hokkaido makes up 22% of the total land area of Japan. It is conveniently located in the path of consistent weather systems – meaning cold snaps coming off the Sea of Japan and Siberia bring huge powder dumps to the ski areas. With many popular ski resorts in the area there is also plenty of opportunity to get off the beaten track and find those smaller ski resorts.
