Shiga Kogen

With 21 different ski resorts and interlinked slopes Shiga Kogen is considered to be one of the largest ski areas in Japan. One lift pass connects you to all these resorts! Located north east of Nagano, this area is renowned for its incredible intermediate skiing. Here you will find a diverse ski terrain that reaches heights of 2,305m with runs suitable for all ski/board abilities. Overview

Located in the highland area of the Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. you will be spoilt for choice at Shiga Kogen with 21 resorts and over 65 lifts providing access to the slopes. The high altitude means the area receives high quality powder snow and also has long ski season that typically stretches into May. Originally, Shiga Kogen was given its fame from hosting the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics but has continued to excel into a world class ski destination.

With  95 runs to experience, plenty of of Japanese powder, beginner slopes, long cruisers and challenging bowls to backcountry terrain there is something for everyone for complete beginners through to advanced skiers.

Off the slopes there are plenty of après activities including visiting the famous Japanese snow monkeys or delve into Japanese history with a visit to the Zenkoji temple and Matsushiro Kaizu castle.

Getting There

Shiga Kogen is located in the Joshinetsu National Park located in northern Nagano, 3-4 hours travel time from Tokyo depending upon transportation used Fly into Narita or Haneda Airport and either transfer directly or stay in Tokyo before heading out to the resort via taxi, train, or bus.
