Travel Visas and Passports
For certain countries travel visas are required. If you are unsure about whether you require a visa please talk to a Snow Holiday Expert or contact the local embassy for the country you are travelling to.
CANADA
All persons travelling to, or transiting through Canada must complete an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation). This application must be completed at least 72 hours prior to departure. Failure to do so may result in denied boarding, delayed processing or denied admission to Canada.
Information and the application form, can be found HERE
Please note, if you are a dual Canadian citizen with a non-Canadian passport, you must have a Canadian passport to be able to board your flight. If your country needs you to enter and exit that country using a passport issued by its government, you will still need a valid Canadian passport to board your flight to enter/depart Canada. Make sure to carry both passports when you travel.
USA
All persons travelling to, or transiting through the USA must complete an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) Visa Waiver Application. This application must be completed at least 72 hours prior to departure. Failure to do so may result in denied boarding, delayed processing or denied admission to the USA.
Information and the application form, can be found HERE
JAPAN
Visas are no longer required for New Zealand citizens travelling for short-term stays up to 90 days
- Visa-free entry is only for tourism, visiting friends and relatives, attending conferences, and any other unpaid activities.
While you don’t need a visa, the Japanese government recommends that all passengers submit declarations electronically through the Visit Japan Web. This helps with entry procedures at arrival and makes tax-free shopping services available online.
PASSPORTS
Don’t forget to check that your passport is valid!
For most countries a minimum of six months validity is required beyond your intended stay.
Note: You are personally responsible for ensuring you have the correct visas, re-entry permits, and have completed all appropriate applications online for electronic authorities.
Criminal Convictions: If you have had any problems with Customs in the past or a criminal conviction in any country please call the applicable Consulate or Embassy for advice on obtaining a visa to enter these countries.
Fines Owing: If you owe reparation, outstanding student loans or overdue fines, you could be stopped from departing NZ at an International Airport. Pay your fines in advance and you’ll be free to travel. Call 0800 729 677 or check out payorstay.govt.nz for more information.
