Main Street to Mountain: The Unique Base Areas of Park City

Utah proudly claims the “Greatest Snow on Earth®,” and it is well earned. The snow is famously dry with consistent snowfall and incredible grooming. Park City Mountain Resort is definitely a favourite—not just for its snow, its status as the largest resort in the United States, or its location just 35 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport. What makes it truly unique is the character woven throughout the base areas of Park City.

The heart of Park City is the Historic Old Town that brings personality, history, and an authentic sense of place. The town has roots going back to the silver mining days of the 1800s, and you’ll see that history everywhere. Colourful Victorian-era buildings line Main Street that houses 200 unique businesses everything from boutiques and galleries to cafés, distilleries, and fine-dining restaurants.

Travel & Co Pick: If you are into the distillery and craft brewing it is alive and well at Park City. Check out Top of Main Brew Pub and No Name Saloon on Main Street!

When it comes to mountain bases, you’ve got two main options: Park City Mountain Village and Canyons Village.

Tip: Use the Park City’s free buses to move between the villages and town.

Park City Mountain Village is closest to Old Town with a true ski in/ski out setup for easy access. Plus, this side of the mountain has the best access to your beginner, green runs. This village certainly has buzz. From first tracks to the après scene, there is always something happening.

Tip: You can ski straight onto Main Street from the top of the Payday Express, down Payday (Blue) and then Creole (Blue) or Quit’N’Time (Blue) to Main St. From there, take the Town Lift back up to the resort and ski down into the Mountain Village.

On the other side of the resort sits Canyons Village—a guest-focused base area that locals love for its more relaxed, less crowded vibe. Over the past few years, Canyons has had a real glow-up with retail stores, spas, restaurants and the ski school. This side has become a favourite for locals, families and powder hounds. Remember, this side offers more intermediate to advanced trails.

Tip: Do not miss the Umbrella Bar at the plaza – its fun, lively and casual. Even better, check the event schedule in advance for the live music experience.
