There’s More to Sun Peaks Resort Than Just Skiing

Think the best part of Sun Peaks is the skiing? There’s more to discover.

Beyond the powder, the off-mountain experiences add a whole new layer to your stay.

Whether you’re craving a high-speed snowmobile adventure or a three-course alpine fondue, there is a whole world of winter experiences to explore.

The best part? You don’t have to lift a finger to experience it. We don’t just secure your flights and accommodation. We select the best partners, try the activities and only then plan, book, and organise your entire itinerary so you can skip the stress and get straight to the experience. Here are some of our favourite in Sun Peaks

Dog Sledding
Sled through the majestic lodgepine trees. This guided tour perfect for young children and adults includes an introduction to dog sledding, meeting the team and feeding snacks on return. Laura Henderson experienced this last season and this is how it went:

A highly anticipated visit with the goodest boys and girls you’ll find on the mountain. Chris and Taryn, a husband-and-wife duo, run the tours alongside their team. They’ve been in the business since 2010, so they know exactly what they’re doing. Before heading out, we met the real workers at their basecamp kennels, where Chris gave us a rundown of the dog breeds and happily answered questions from our small group. Once the teams were attached to the sleds, the energy ramped up quickly — the dogs were beyond excited to get going. You’re snugged in with a blanket, tucked into the sled cocoon, and off you go.

Out on the trail, it’s surprisingly peaceful as the dogs settle into their rhythm. Stop for a moment, though, and the barking kicks back in — they’re ready to go again.

A genuinely fun experience, and one that pretty much anyone can enjoy. Perfect for non-skiers or as a rest day activity for families.

Ice Fishing
If you’re looking for a laid-back winter activity that still offers excitement, ice fishing is a great choice. Sitting on a frozen lake, surrounded by pristine wilderness, you’ll feel miles away from the hustle of daily life. Lucy Macready went on this experience with her family a couple of seasons ago:

I didn’t expect ice fishing to be a highlight, but it honestly was.

A short drive out and suddenly you’re standing on a frozen lake — snow everywhere, trees all around. It feels like a completely different world to Sun Peaks.

I’m not much of a fisher, but sitting inside the little tent with the family turned into some of the best chats of the trip. We were lucky enough to pull up two rainbow trout through the freshly drilled hole in the ice — one we even helped create.

Campbell, our local guide, made the whole experience. Full of knowledge, incredibly patient, and always making sure everyone was warm and comfortable.

Sitting there with a hot chocolate in hand, looking out at the scenery, chatting and laughing the whole time — it ended up being one of those unexpectedly great moments.
