6 reasons you should spend your holiday skiing or boarding Big White

Located just an hour’s drive from the closest airport, Kelowna International, more than 750cm of silky dry powder falls each year, making it a popular destination for revellers of all abilities to ride the Monashee Mountains on groomed and powder run, all accessed with a state-of-the-art lift system.

1. Ski in and ski out

As Canada’s largest ski in ski out resort Big White provides the holy grail of skiing and boarding: gliding straight to and from your door and into the white stuff.
With nearly all hotels and apartments purpose-built for this, the main lifts start below village level – even the main street through the centre of the resort is a ski run to be traversed back to your lodgings.

2. Spring skiing

Well, spring in Canada at least. Snowbunnies downunder will be escaping their gloomy days for the tail end of the Northern season.

Back to back bluebirds are not only perfect for those (literal) fair weathered skiiers or boarders- but the perfect time for more seasoned professionals to get warmed up for the southern hemisphere season in unrivalled powder.

3. Walk, dine and wine through the village, watch a snow rally or enjoy the LGBQT winter festival

Events as fresh as the snow fill the Big White resort’s calendar each season.

Stroll from one of the village to the other taking advantage of the Walk, Dine and Wine event, or celebrate New Year’s Eve on the mountain.

Big White also have their own Australia Day event, not to mention the weekly events for kids and families and the LGBQ2T winter festival.

4. Family friendly

Big White is a great place to take the whole family. Known for its Après bar culture, there are lots of good restaurants and the mountain terrain suits intermediate skill levels the best.

The Happy Valley area at the bottom of the village offers the perfect family activities such as ice skating, snowshoeing, mobiling, tubing and climbing – with a gondola that runs until 10pm.

5. There is an 8m tall outdoor movie screen

The 2018/19 season saw a new 8m movie screen at the mountain resort. It will feature outdoor village Winter Movie Nights under the stunning night skies.

The screen is also intended for film festivals and major sporting events – an exciting offering anywhere, let alone a magical winter wonderland where you can ski into the open air cinema!

6. They have their own chocolate and beer

Big White will be the only mountain resort in the whole of North America to have its own custom-made Parisian chocolate when it starts serving the delicious treats this year.

The resorts chief exectuive, Rob Walker, has not made the decision lightly – travelling all the way to the famous Or Noir Laboratories of French chocolatier Cacao Barry.

Two unique varieties of the chocolate will be added to the mountain’s cuisine offerings, which also has its own craft beer brand, Elevation 57 Brewing Company.

The beer is brewed at the highest elevation in Canada, 5757 feet (1754m) and is part of a new escape room offering by Sessions Taphouse and Grill.

Try and escape the rooms by solving puzzles – a great way to warm up after a day on the slopes.
